HCAUK
Mike Dawson is a Treasurer of the Handcycling Association UK (HCAUK). The charity promotes handcycling both as a sport and a recreational activity. They aim to give people a stepping stone back into cycling after changing from able-bodied to disabled, helping them to embrace exercise and get out and about.
Following the London 2012 Paralympics, Mike became an avid handcyclist. He quickly progressed from being an amateur to taking part in races, and in 2014 began to come into active contact with HCAUK. He discovered that the charity had struggled over recent years in terms of how it was structured and managed.
Mike agreed to come on board as a committee member, bringing 20 years’ experience as a business owner, not to mention his not inconsiderable levels of willpower, to the HCAUK Board. He helped address the management issues and continues to collaborate with the other trustees to move the charity forward.
While HCAUK is not the largest charity around, Mike is incredibly proud to be a part of the excellent work they do. If you’d like to know more about HCAUK or handcycling, or the regular events that are planned around the UK, please click here.
